An Amboseli National Park safari is known for its elephant herds and clear views of Mount Kilimanjaro, making it one of Kenya’s most photographed wildlife destinations. Though smaller than parks like the Maasai Mara, Amboseli delivers reliable game viewing, dense elephant populations, and a distinctive backdrop that few other parks can match.
This 3 day Amboseli safari package combines savannah game drives, close-up elephant sightings, and an optional Maasai cultural visit into a well-paced fly-in safari from Nairobi. It suits travelers looking for a short Kenya safari that still covers a full big-game itinerary, with lodge and tented camp options ranging from mid-range stays to luxury conservancy properties.
Amboseli sits within the wider Amboseli-West Kilimanjaro ecosystem, home to some of Africa’s largest tuskers, along with buffalo, zebra, giraffe, cheetah, and over 400 recorded bird species. Its accessibility from Nairobi by scheduled light aircraft makes it one of the more time-efficient options for an African safari holiday, without a long overland drive.
From Nairobi to Amboseli National Park and back, here’s where your safari takes you:
This Amboseli safari price varies by lodge, season, and group size, with accommodation ranging from budget tented camps to luxury lodges inside the park and in nearby conservancies. As with our other packages, the more people traveling together, the lower the cost per person.
Children: free (0–2 years, sharing with adults); 75% of adult rate (3–11 years, sharing with adults)
Note: this lodge list isn't exhaustive — if you have a specific property in mind, we can provide a custom quote.
Meals: Lunch, Dinner
Hotel pick-up and transfer to Wilson Airport for a scheduled flight to Amboseli National Park, with aerial views of the Great Rift Valley and the plains of southern Kenya on approach to Kilimanjaro.
On arrival at Amboseli Airstrip, your lodge or camp host meets you for a scenic game drive to your accommodation, typically passing elephants, buffalo, zebra, giraffe, and occasionally cheetah.
After check-in and lunch, you head out for an afternoon game drive, with strong late-afternoon light for photography as the sun lowers behind Kilimanjaro. Return to the lodge at sunset for dinner and an evening by the campfire.
Accommodation options: Luxury — Tortilis Camp Amboseli, Ol Tukai Lodge; Mid-range — Amboseli Serena Safari Lodge; Budget — Kibo Safari Camp or Sentrim Amboseli Camp
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
An early morning game drive covers the best window for wildlife activity and the clearest views of Kilimanjaro. Return to the lodge for breakfast, followed by a mid-morning game drive or an optional visit to a nearby Maasai village to learn about local traditions, crafts, and conservation partnerships.
After lunch and a rest at the lodge, an afternoon game drive covers Amboseli's five distinct habitats: swampy springs, open plains, acacia woodlands, rocky thorn bush, and the dry bed of Lake Amboseli. Your private vehicle and driver-guide remain available for customized routes or additional game viewing.
Optional activities: guided birdwatching safari (400+ species); visit to Observation Hill for panoramic park views; sundowner with views of elephants at the marshes.
Overnight at your lodge or camp.
Meals: Breakfast
An early pre-breakfast game drive covers the last opportunity for sunrise wildlife activity, including a chance of spotting lions or hyenas returning from a night hunt.
After breakfast, transfer to the airstrip for the scheduled flight back to Nairobi. On arrival at Wilson Airport, transfer to your city hotel or on to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your departure flight.
AA Amboseli Lodge — Budget. Three-star comfort less than two miles from the Kimana Gate of Amboseli National Park.
Amboseli Sopa Lodge — Budget. Rustic, well-spaced cottages set through mature gardens, with 83 guest rooms.
Kilima Safari Camp — Mid-range. Located inside Amboseli National Park a short distance from Kimana Gate, with a spacious camp layout and welcoming reception.
This itinerary can also be tailored to depart from Mombasa or combined with other parks, ask us about adjusting your route, lodge selection, and travel dates.
The dry season (June–October and January–March) offers the best game viewing and the clearest Kilimanjaro views. During the short rains (November–December), the park turns lush and green, better suited to photographers and birdwatchers than to guaranteed mountain views.
This package is all-inclusive: accommodation, meals, vehicle and guide fees, and Amboseli's park entrance fees (which run over $70 per day for non-residents) are all covered. The main exclusions are tipping, personal items, and optional activities such as hot-air ballooning.
Fly from Nairobi's Wilson Airport with views over the Rift Valley and southern Kenya's plains on approach to Amboseli.
Cover Amboseli's open plains, swamps, and acacia woodland in search of elephants, buffalo, zebra, giraffe, and cheetah, with the best light for photography in the early morning and late afternoon.
Learn about local traditions, crafts, and the community conservation partnerships that help protect Amboseli's ecosystem.
Climb for panoramic views across the park's plains, swamps, and woodland.
Search for species from Amboseli's recorded list of over 400 birds, with a specialist guide
