Location

Ikweta Safari Camp is a tented safari camp situated just outside Meru National Park in eastern Kenya.

  • It lies about 2 kilometres from Murera Gate, the main park entrance.

  • The camp is positioned in a scenic semi-arid wilderness area with views toward surrounding landscapes and is one of the few full-service mid-range safari accommodation options in the region.

How to Get There

By Road

  • From Nairobi, the drive to Ikweta Safari Camp typically takes around 5–6 hours along the A2 route via Embu, then onto the Meru National Park access road. You can enter the park through Murera Gate or Ura Gate depending on your route and season. 

  • A 4×4 vehicle is recommended for ease of access, especially during the rainy seasons. Self-drive or guided transfers can be arranged.

By Air

  • Commercial flights depart from Nairobi Wilson Airport to Kinna Airstrip near Meru National Park. Flight time is roughly 40 minutes, and transfers from the airstrip to the camp take about 30–40 minutes

  • The camp also has a helipad if guests arrive by helicopter. 

Public Transport (Local)

  • Public shared taxis (matatus) and boda bodas (motorcycle taxis) can be used from Meru Town to the park area, but organizing a tour transfer or private taxi is recommended for comfort and convenience.

Game Drives

  • Safari game drives in Meru National Park are the primary activity. Guides can arrange early morning and late afternoon drives to see elephants, lions, buffalo, leopards, giraffes, rhinos, and diverse plains wildlife. 

Nature Walks

  • Guided nature walks through the camp’s surrounding environment are available.
