Few places on earth compare to the first moment you enter the rolling plains of the Maasai Mara. The air feels wider. The horizon stretches endlessly. And somewhere beyond the acacia trees, lions are already on the move.
This 3 day Maasai Mara safari is designed for travelers who want maximum wildlife experience in minimal time. It’s efficient, well-paced, and led by experienced Kenyan driver-guides who know the terrain, animal movement patterns, and the best game-viewing circuits inside the reserve.
Whether you’re planning a budget safari, a mid-range lodge stay, a luxury escape, or a fly-in package, this itinerary delivers authentic Mara game viewing with transparent pricing and professional local support.
From Nairobi to the Maasai Mara National Reserve and back, here’s where your safari takes you:
Day 1 covers your flight in and an afternoon game drive; Day 2 is a full day inside the reserve with a picnic lunch; Day 3 is a sunrise game drive followed by your return flight to Nairobi. Full details are in the Itinerary tab.
Cost depends on your chosen lodge, the season you travel in, and your group size, see the Prices tab for the full lodge-by-lodge breakdown.
Options range from mid-range tented camps to luxury lodges across the Mara ecosystem and surrounding conservancies — see Tailor Your Stay for highlighted picks.
About one hour by scheduled light aircraft; road transfers are also possible but take considerably longer.
Lions, leopards, elephants, buffalo, and rhino are all present in the Mara ecosystem, alongside cheetahs, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, hippos, and Nile crocodiles — sightings vary by season, but the Mara offers strong year-round game viewing.
July–October for the Great Migration and peak dry-season game viewing; April–May for the lowest rates and lush green scenery.
This Maasai Mara safari price varies by lodge, season, and group size, since accommodation ranges from mid-range tented camps to luxury lodges across the Mara ecosystem and surrounding conservancies. As a general rule, the more people traveling together, the lower the cost per person.

Meals: Lunch, Dinner
Early morning transfer from your Nairobi hotel, residence, or the international airport to Wilson Airport. From there, a scheduled light aircraft flight to the Maasai Mara, taking about one hour and passing over the Great Rift Valley escarpment, rural Kenyan landscapes, and open savannah.
On arrival, your driver-guide meets you at the airstrip. Game viewing typically starts on the transfer drive to your lodge or tented camp, where elephants, giraffes, topi, and gazelle are commonly seen, and lions are occasionally spotted resting in shaded areas.
After check-in and lunch, you head out for an afternoon game drive. Late afternoon is a productive period for predator activity, with lions, cheetahs, and elephants often active near water sources at this time of day.
Note: guests staying in conservancies who want to access the Mara Triangle during migration river crossings are subject to an $80 per person park fee surcharge.
Dinner and overnight at your selected lodge or tented camp.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
This is the main day of game viewing. Departure is early, around sunrise, when wildlife activity is typically highest. Your guide sets the day's route based on recent predator sightings, seasonal wildlife concentrations, river activity, and weather conditions.
A picnic lunch is provided so you can remain inside the reserve for the full day rather than returning to camp at midday. The day focuses on tracking lions, leopards, and cheetahs across the open plains, with a flexible, private itinerary.
During migration months (typically July–October), wildebeest and zebra move between Tanzania and Kenya in large numbers. If herds are present in the Mara, large concentrations may be visible near the Mara River, and river crossings are possible, though not guaranteed. Predators and crocodiles often position themselves near known crossing points. Your guide will plan your position in advance if conditions suggest a crossing may occur.
Return to camp in the late afternoon for dinner and overnight.
Meals: Breakfast
An early game drive begins the final day. Sunrise hours often produce good sightings, including lions returning from a night hunt, hyenas heading back to their dens, herbivores grazing, and active birdlife along the riverbanks.
After breakfast, transfer back to the airstrip, with further game viewing en route. Board your scheduled flight back to Nairobi, arriving around midday, with a transfer to your hotel or onward destination on arrival.
PrideInn Mara Camp — Best for affordable luxury & riverside views. Set along the Talek River, this camp blends comfort and style with spacious en-suite tents, a swimming pool, and dining that mixes African and international flavors, a strong pick for travelers wanting a luxury feel at mid-range rates.
La Maison Royale Mara Camp — Best for boutique luxury & tranquil escapes. Located near Sekenani Gate, this camp combines European elegance with African warmth in contemporary tented suites with private decks, fine dining, spa treatments, and scenic sundowners, ideal for couples or honeymooners.
Mara Maisha Tented Camp — Best for authentic safari ambiance & local hospitality. Near the main reserve entrance, this camp delivers a genuine tented experience infused with Maasai culture, well-furnished tents with open-plain views, and a real bush atmosphere at an affordable rate.
This 3-day fly-in safari can also be extended or combined with other parks, ask us about tailoring your route, pace, and lodge selection to your travel dates and budget.
Travel is by scheduled light aircraft from Wilson Airport in Nairobi, taking about one hour each way, with game drives typically beginning right after landing rather than after a long road transfer.
Skip the long road transfer with a scenic flight from Nairobi, taking in the Great Rift Valley escarpment and open savannah from the air.
Start spotting wildlife the moment you land, with elephants, giraffes, topi, and gazelle commonly seen en route to camp, and predator activity picking up in the late afternoon.
Stay inside the reserve all day, tracking lions, leopards, and cheetahs across the open plains with a flexible, private itinerary.
When herds are present, position near the Mara River for a chance at witnessing a wildebeest and zebra crossing, with predators and crocodiles often nearby.
