Explore Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary with Natural World Kenya Safaris
Imagine walking through a lush forest, hand-in-hand with a playful chimpanzee by your side. This extraordinary experience awaits at Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary—a 100-acre refuge on Lake Victoria dedicated to over 50 orphaned and rescued chimps. Here, you’ll learn about these remarkable primates while supporting their care and conservation.
All chimps at Ngamba Island have been rescued—some from poachers, others from neglect—and are provided a safe, enriching environment where they can roam freely, receive medical care, and enjoy daily feedings.
Arriving at the Sanctuary Accessible by speedboat or canoe, you’ll be greeted on the island with a presentation by one of the sanctuary’s caregivers. Each chimp has a unique story, and the caregivers here know them by name, offering you an intimate glimpse into their lives.
Get Close to the Chimps Witness the lively feeding sessions and even join the team as they interact with the chimps, who are eager for attention! There are two feedings each day, morning and afternoon, with raised platforms for an easy view of the chimps in action.
